As part of activities to mark his six years in office, Governor Willie Obiano commissioned some roads and bridges spread across the three senatorial districts of the State, embarked upon by his administration.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Obiano disclosed that his administration has completed over one thousand kilometers of over ninety five roads.
The projects include the four point three kilometer St Peter’s University, Achina- Onneh Road awarded in 2014, some roads in Nnewi including the two point four kilometers Nnobi to Nnewi road, two point four kilometers Ozubulu road and two point four kilometers road in Oraifite.
Others are the Nengo Bridge, Nteje, the three point two kilometre Umueze -Igboezunu- Adani Road Aguleri, commenced and completed in 2019, the four point eight kilometers Awkuzu SARS Junction – Abube Square Nando road with a twenty meter Bridge, over six kilometer road which also has seven culverts as well as the one point two kilometer Stamford road, Awka.
Commissioning the projects, Governor Obiano pledged to do more, calling on ndi Anambra to cultivate the habit of disilting their drainages and stop burning tires on coal-tarred roads for durability.
Governor Obiano who noted that the economic importance of the road is enormous, pointed out that the roads will unite the communities involved and expressed happiness that the projects were completed during his time urging ndi Anambra to help government protect facilities in their areas.
The Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor said that the Obiano-led administration is distributing road infrastructure evenly across the three senatorial districts, applauding the Governor for embarking on projects with strong socio-economic importance.
Speaking at different Communities visited, stakeholders including the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, Traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Roland Odegbo, Traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Raph Ekpe, the Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Jonas Benson Okoye, among others commended the Governor for living up to his campaign promises, and asked him to do more.
Top government officials attended the commissioning ceremony while different music groups entertained the audience.
