The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to set up a waste recycling plant in Anambra State in line with international best practices.


The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored to that effect by member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Honourable Nonso Okafor during plenary conducted in Igbo language on Wednesday.


House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that giving further explanation to the motion, Honourable Okafor who was disturbed that the current practice of lumping all waste both bio-degradable ones and others together will not deliver the clean Anambra vision of the Governor and also not climate friendly.


He therefore urged the Executive Arm of Government to implement the modern waste management strategies by setting up a recycling plant where different types of waste will be sorted and separately recycled for economic benefits.


On his part, the member representing Orumba South Constituency, Honourable Emma Nwafor hinted that for Anambra State to maintain a cleaner environment, a more strategic and positive approach need to be adopted in attacking the surging waste generated from different households, institutions and business on daily basis.


Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor noted that the motion if implemented will create job opportunities for the youths, generate more income for the state and keep the state clean.
