Governor Willie Obiano has charged young graduates to be hard working and resilient in other to explore opportunities the future holds for them.


Governor Obiano gave the charge during the tenth convocation lecture of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, held at the school’s auditorium at Igbariam.


Education correspondent, Theophilus Ukoha reports that despite the warning about social distance and no hand shake measures, the university auditorium which was filled to capacity as attendees were all sanitized and other proactive measures taken to forestall any possible contamination of the trending covid19 virus.


In his speech, Governor Obiano, represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Professor Theresa Obiekezie, who said that the graduands of today will take over from those occupying various positions in the society to build a better tomorrow.


The Vice Chancellor, Professor Greg Nwakoby in his welcome address expressed happiness on the level of attendance despite the fear of coronavirus epidemic.


Professor Nwakoby said the choice of the convocation lecturer in the person of Bishop Mathew Kukah could not have been otherwise considering the theme of the lecture: “Nigeria; What is the Time and where are we?,” which seeks answers to numerous challenges facing the country.


The chairman of the convocation lecture, Senator Victor Umeh, who was represented by Professor Frank Chiegboka, urged the graduads to ensure that they make proper use of time in all their endeavors.


The guest lecturer and Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Kukah, started with a prayer for God to heal the land and give solution to the coronavirus epidemic, saying that time naturally means different things to different people as it generates different results depending on the occasion.


In separate interviews, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, a former Commissioner for Education, Professor Leonard Moghalu, and the Deputy Registrar COOU, Mr. Ntomchukwu said Nigerians should have have proper perception of time to regulate actions and activities of the diverse individuals of Nigerian nationality with a view to rewrite the wrongs of the nation’s founding fathers.


The tenth convocation lecture was attended by Igwe Idigo of Aguleri, Igwe Nzekwe Kelly, the Chancellor, COOU, Oba Adejomo Adejugbe, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, House of Assembly members, members of the academia among others.
