Mothers of Church of Pentecost Awka have joined their counterpart in the Anglican Communion to commemorate 2020 mothers Sunday with a special church service and other activities that heralded the event.
Correspondent, Ngozi Obileri captured the mood of the celebration which took place at the church and reports that
in a sermon, the Vicar of the Church, Reverend Canon Ifeanyi Emegwa, whose topic centered on the theme of the celebration “be still and know that I am God”, said that even in times of trouble, God is with His people especially when the nations are in chaos like this season of corona virus.
The Vicar advised the women to pray for the world and country at large, and to always adhere to the instructions on how to prevent the deadly corona virus.
The wife of the Vicar, Mrs Uzoamaka Emegwa, thanked God that they are alive to witness this year’s celebration, charging mothers to make their role of nurturing godly children their priority for the good of all.
The Chairman of 2020 Mothers Sunday Planning committee, Mrs Ngozi Mbachi of News Agency of Nigeria and another journalist in the state, Mrs Nkiru Nwagbo, advised mothers to shun striving to become perfect mothers by providing all their children’s needs and not correcting them whenever they are wrong.
In their separate speeches, some parishioners, including any Honourable Emeka Aforka, representing Orumba North in Anambra state House of Assembly and the Commissioner for Commerce and Wealth creation, Mr Uche Okafor said the role of mothers in the growth and development of the society cannot be over emphasized, noting that their job of nurturing children into adulthood is a herculean task.
On the thirty five percent affirmation of involving women in political positions , they said Anambra State government has done quite a lot as women occupy many political positions in Anambra presently.
The event featured widow’s empowerment by the Planning Committee members led by the Chairman, Mrs Ngozi Mbachi, presentation of gifts to fathers in the church, presentation by children and cutting of cake.
