Though there is no case of Coronavirus Covid-19 in Anambra State, almost all hotels visited within Awka Capital City are in full compliance with the Anambra State Government’s directives on the prevention of its spread.

The State Government had, in the wake of widespread transmission of the virus, directed, among other concerns, hotels and restaurants, night clubs, lounges and bars to, among other things, provide hand-washing stations and sanitizers at their entrances, encouraging guests to wash their hands with soap and running water for at least twenty seconds at intervals.

Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha reports that facilities visited including the Roban Stores, Five-Star Food and Restaurant, the Goegold Hotel and De Sanctos Hotel, Fidelity Bank, all in Awka, had different levels of compliance with the provision of nasal mask, hand-gloves, water and soap for hand-washing, automatic sanitizer dispenser, and infrared thermometer for temperature check.

Top Management officials at the facilities, including Miss Hannah Ugwu, Messrs Ifeanyi Agbaim, Chigozie Azubike and Elochukwu Ezeibenne, while commending government for being proactive, said they are willing to comply with the directives since it is in their interest and that of customers.

Customers who spoke to the ABS, including the Member representing Nnewi North Constituency in the State Assembly, Honourable Nonso Okafor and Mr Kenechukwu Amadi, while thanking the facilities for complying with government directives, called on individuals to take the Coronavirus prevention message as a serious issue to avoid widespread transmission.

The State Ministry of Health asked other hotels and organisations who are yet to introduce the measures to do so with immediate effect.
