Individuals and corporate organizations in Anambra state have started responding to the appeal for both financial and material support by the state government, as part of measures to wedge the spread of Corona Virus in the state.


One of the leading private industries in the state, the MP Infrastructure, responded to the call, by making a donation of five million naira to the state government.


The presentation which featured during a media briefing by the government on its level of preparedness in containing the deadly virus in case of any eventuality in the state.


Receiving the cheque at the Conference Hall of the Secretary to the state Government, Government House Awka, the SSG Professor Solo Chukwulobelu who appreciated the MP Infrastructure for the gesture, called on other affluent individuals in the state to respond to the call by donating money and materials as government alone cannot shoulder the burden.


Professor Chukwulobelu reiterated the need for everybody to stay at home and stay alive by avoiding exposures that could make them vulnerable to the virus.


The Chief of staff to the Governor, Chief Primus Odili had during media briefing charged Ndi Anambra to keep sentiments apart and engage in massive sensitization and awareness campaign in order to take the information to the grass roots level.


On his part, the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Sir Willie Nwokoye, urged individuals to increase surveillance and looking out for vulnerable persons in their areas, give them support in terms of food items, money and sanitation materials at this trying period to check the adverse effect of the virus on the people.


Giving a rundown of activities of his Ministry in preparedness towards averting Covid -19 from entering into the state, the Commissioner for Health Dr Vincent Okpala said, they started work since January 2020 and has been on their toes , adding that apart from setting aside three isolation hospitals across the state, they have procured one thousand beds where people would be kept in case of any emergency, even as he called on affluent persons in the state to help in providing things needed as government is battling to ensure that the people living in Anambra are saved from the virus.


Presenting the cheque, the Chairman of MP industries Mr. Clem Nwogbo represented by his Manager Mr. Tony Nwumeh said Governor Obiano has shown exceptional courage and leadership at this time, as the Chairman of Anambra State Covid-19 Task Force and commended various measures taken by Covid-19 team to ensure that Ndi Anambra are safe.


Mr. Nwogbo noted that as a responsible corporate citizen, the M-P Infrastructure Ltd, promoters of Awka Millennium City project were aware of the enormous resources the state government requires to adequately ensure that its Covid-19 prevention activities are effective and successful, hence their decision to donate the five million naira.


Also speaking, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim who is the Special Adviser to the Governor on Indigenous medicine and Managing Director Anambra state Oxygen Plant, commended the donor, Mr. Nwogbo for answering the call by the government , charging others to emulate him.
