The Salvation Army Nigeria says it is profoundly aware of their responsibilities to bring hope, help and healing to those who are most vulnerable in the face of the deadly COVID-19 ravaging parts of the world presently.


The Territorial Commander Nigeria Territory, Colonel Victor Leslie in a release, urged its members all over the country to adhere strictly to the government’s directives so as to stay alive and avoid spreading the virus.


According to the release, the Salvation Army church has been diligently monitoring and resourcefully guided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control instructions on personal and public hygiene, social distancing and other measures proposed in order to keep the communities healthy.


It said that in order to help stem the spread of the virus, the church has among other things, directed leaders to obey all directives issued by federal, state and local governments.


It said that the church has adjusted its worship and evangelism strategy to facilitate restrictions on gatherings and encouraged the enhanced use of the internet for broadcasts of devotional and prayer resources and live-streaming of church services and Bible Study via social media.


The church has also closed all of its schools and educational facilities and made provision to circulate NCDC’s public health advisory and related materials on COVID-19 to all staff, students and parents.


Colonel Leslie in the release mandated only essential skeletal services at their hospitals and community clinics while Healthcare workers have been advised to observe standard infection prevention and control measures.


In the same vein, the Territorial Envoy Nigeria Territory, Dr Levi Muonanu has urged the affluent in the society to show love to the poor and needy this trying times.


Dr Monanu said even in this time of social distancing, people can still safely reach out in mercy and love.


He commended the leadership of the church for calling for a national prayer and fasting, for the presence and protection of God, on Nigerians this period of trouble and always.
