The Anambra state government’s directive on closure of markets in the state came into effect yesterday with the major markets in Onitsha complying fully.
The Onitsha main market reputed to be the biggest single market in the West African sub region remained closed as at the time of filing this report.
Correspondent, Blessing ijedibia who was at the market early in the morning observed that only security personnel were seen at the entrance of the market .
It was also observed that stalls and shops along the adjoining streets within the main market Axis such as Old Market Road ,Nottege street, Bida Road, remained closed .
However, some parts of Ose market, including Ajasa Street market ,and Emejulu street, well known for sale of food stuff witnessed bee hive of activities as buyers and sellers alike were seen haggling prices. . Those who spoke to the ABS, in respect of the closure, including Mrs Blessing Osita and Mrs Ebele Aniegbumam commended the government’s directives, noting that it will help in containing the spread of the virus.
The story was the same at Nkpor New Auto Spare Parts market where all stalls remained closed, with only security operatives manning the market .
The Nkpor Main market was not left out, as the area was deserted with only sections dealing on foodstuff opened for business.
