Anambra State Ministry of Transport has commenced strict monitoring of border closure to ensure that commuters comply
with the State government’s directive .
The monitoring team led by the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Christian Madubuko, visited Amansea border with Enugu State and Bridge Head border with Delta State respectively.
Blessing Uchendu reports that Anambra State Government had, in a bid to protect the State from the COVID-19, through the control of influx of people into the State, announced the closure of all land borders in the State with effect from thirtieth March.
Both the Amansea and Bridge Head borders boast the heavy daily entry and check out passages in Anambra State.
On arrival at both points, it was observed that different security agencies had already blocked them, restricting movement of Motorists both in and out of the state, except for vehicles conveying food items and medicals.
The Commissioner, Dr Madubuko, in an interview, said that the exercise was in line with the directive of Governor Willie Obiano to ensure strict adherence to border closure to ensure that corona-virus pandemic does not find its way into the State.
On his part, the Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, who is also monitoring compliance with his team, expressed satisfaction that majority of the commuters had complied with the directive on border closure in the State, and maintained that the enforcement will be sustained to see that the aim is fully achieved.
He extolled the Anambra State government for the series of measures put in place to check the virus.
