As part of its efforts towards ensuring zero record of coronavirus in Anambra, the state government has continued to monitor all land borders across the state through the Ministry of Transport to enforce total compliance with the borders closure order by the State government .
Borders visited by the state Commissioner for Transport, Dr Christian Madubuko in company of some officials of the Ministry, include Enugu State border through Amansi , Enugu state border through Ufuma and Delta State border through Onitsha at Bridge Head.
During the exercise, men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as Department of State Security, DSS, were seen at the borders making sure that commuters do not move in and out of the state.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, Commissioner Madubuko who adjudged commuters present compliance to the recent ban on interstate movement as eighty percent when compared to other days of the monitoring exercise, called for total adherence to the law by people of the state, noting that the new order by the state government is for good of all, as it is to ensure that Covid-19 does not enter into Anambra.
Dr. Madubuko commended security agencies for assisting the state government in the enforcement of the new order in the various borders of the state, and asked them to put in more effort to ensure total compliance of the people.
He used the opportunity to call on transporters to continue to abide by the present order on the number of passengers they convey in their automobiles at a time, and promised that the state government would soon terminate some of the payments they make on daily bases as a way of cushioning the effect of the new order on both the transporters and their passengers.
One of the drivers that spoke to the ABS during the exercise, Mr Basil Njoku, an Ekwulobia Urban Mass Transport company driver, conveying passengers to Enugu state through the Ufuma/Enugu border, who was detained by the Commissioner during the outing, said though he was aware of the recent restriction on interstate movement, but was made to embark on the trip by his quest for money for the family’s upkeep, and pleaded for forgiveness.
The Commissioner who also during the exercise frowned at drivers who now load and offload passengers at both ends of the Amansi/Enugu border, also visited Ekwulobia Urban Mass Transport Company at Ekwulobia where he ordered the company to stop conveying interstate passengers.
