The member representing Dunukofia constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Lawrence Ezeudu has distributed sanitary materials worth millions of naira to the six communities and markets in the constituency.


This is in keeping with the efforts of helping people in the rural communities have access to some of the preventive materials against the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 that is ravaging the world.



Somme of the materials distributed include buckets with taps, hand sanitizers, liquid soaps, facial masks and hand gloves.


World Health Organization, WHO, the global watchdog on health matters recommends that hand washing, social distancing and avoiding public gatherings remain some of the best preventive mechanisms against the spread of the viral disease.


Speaking at the event which held at Ifitedunu Civic Centre, the Lawmaker who is also the Chief Whip of the State Assembly, explained that it will also help to increase awareness in the communities and markets for people to stay safe against the virus.


While teaching the representatives of the communities and market leaders on how to stay safe at this time, Honourable Ezeudu stated that respecting the safety means were the reasons only two persons per community and one person per market were invited to represent the communities to ensure maintenance of State and Federal Government’s directives on public gatherings and social distancing.


The move by the Lawmaker attracted commendations from the Community, market and women leaders as they praised his initiative and stepped for remembering them at this time of global health crises.


Particularly, the Traditional ruler of Umudioka, Igwe Ralph Chukwurah, the President General of Ukwulu, Chief Walter Okafor and his Ukpo counterpart, Chief Vincent Oyiliagu promised to increase the awareness in their communities and ensure that the sanitary materials will be equitably distributed.
Dunukofia State Constituency is made up of Ukpo, Ifitedunu, Umunnachi, Umudioka, Ukwulu and Nawgu and the markets where major food items are sold include Oye Ukpo, Nkwo Ifitedunu, Afor Igwe Umudioka, Afor Ukwulu, Eke Umunnachi and Afor Nawgu.
