Governor Willie Obiano has commended Ndi Anambra especially traders in the sixty- three major Markets in Anambra State for complying with the directives on Covid-19 pandemic.


He also thanked the traditional rulers, Church leaders, the Presidents-General and other Community leaders who have assisted the government in ensuring that people comply with the directives.


In a Statewide broadcast on COVID-19, Governor Obiano expressed regret that despite the proactive measures to insulate the State from the pandemic, it has recorded the first case of Corona-virus.


The Governor who said that the index case came in from Lagos disclosed that the victim has been placed in one of the Protective Care Centers.
Governor Obiano said that government has commenced aggressive contact tracing to ensure that everyone he came in contact with is brought into the net for a professional handling that will save lives.


He urged Ndi Anambra not to panic saying that it did not take the government by surprise since government adequately prepared to handle the situation.


The Governor said the State has trained enough manpower on how to handle Covid-19 cases adding that its Protective Care Centers are among the best in the Country so far.


He said that following the recording of the first case of Corona-virus in Anambra State, it has become extremely necessary to tighten the measures earlier put in place on the pandemic adding that the restriction on movement has been extended by two weeks which is placing a comprehensive lock down on Anambra State.


The Governor disclosed that government shall not tolerate any movement across the State by individuals and groups as only people on essential services will be permitted to move around in the delivery of those services to the people.


He advised the people to stay indoors to avoid getting contaminated by the virus saying that security agencies will enforce the restriction on movement as he has authorized them to make arrests where necessary.


The Governor maintained that all Anambra boundaries with other neighbouring States remain closed as there will be no vehicular or human movements across all the boundaries of Anambra State saying that only vehicles delivering essential services will be permitted after a comprehensive check and authorization by security operatives at the boundaries.
