Over five hundred indigent persons including widows in Awa Community Orumba North Local government Area have benefitted from the Omelora Israel Ezue Foundation as part of palliatives to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the people of the area.
The event took place at the benefactor’s family compound.
Correspondent Chidinma Ikeanyionwu reports that
bags of rice and a cash of ten thousand naira each were given to widows, less privileged, aged and indigent persons in the Community selected from the twelve villages that make up Awa and non-indigenes thus making it a total of thirteen.
These items were received by representatives of the beneficiaries to avoid crowded gathering as directed by government and Health bodies as part of measures to check the spread of Corona-virus.
Speaking while handing over the items, the benefactor, Chief Israel Ezue said that his intention is to help members by providing them with food and cash and called on them to adhere strictly to all government directives on Corona-virus in order not to spread the disease.
Chief Ezue who is the Traditional Prime Minister of Awa, also called on other affluent members of the Community to help in whichever way they can in order to alleviate the sufferings of the indigent in the Community.
Speaking earlier, some members of the Igwe in Council, Chief Ernest Okafor and Chief Edwin Nwikpo commended the benefactor even as they also urged their community members to stay home and stay safe.
Appreciating Chief Ezue immediately after receiving the items, some of the representatives of the beneficiaries Mr Friday Odoh who represented the non indigenes in Awa and Chief Clement Orji a representative of the Awa Indigenes thanked Chief Ezue for always having the indigent members of the community at heart even as they prayed God to bless him.
Strict observance of social distancing and use of sanitizers and proper washing of hands were carried out before each of them was allowed to enter Chief Ezue’s compound,
