Nigerian government has reassured on promotion of wellbeing of Nigerians anywhere in the world.


The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Geoffrey Onyema stated this while briefing the press on the alleged maltreatment of Nigerians in the Guangzhou Province of China.


Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja Bureau reports that the Minister reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring Nigerians are not maltreated wherever they may be in the world.


Mr. Onyema, said the government had akread contacted the Nigerian Ambassador to China and the Consulate in Guangzhou to access what the situation was, that brought about the viral videos and found out that communication gap led to the problem.


According to him, some Africans and Nigerians had tested positive to COVID-19 in Gwanghzou Province which brought about strict quarantine measures to contain the spread but government authorities acted without adequately sensitizing the people.


He stated that the problem would have been avoided if the government had contacted the Nigerian Consulate before proceeding with the plan.


The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Dr Zhou Pingjain in his remarks reiterated the fact that China is in the same pace with other countries of the world in the battle against COVID-19.


He said the Chinese government is doing all within her reach to ensure there’s no resurgence of Coronvirus.
According to him, as at thirteenth April, the total cases of COVID-19 in Guangzhou was one hundred and nine out of which twenty six of them were blacks and nine of them were Nigerians.


He assured government that Guangzhou is fighting Coronavirus and not Africans or Nigerians stressing that the country has zero tolerance for discrimination and stigmatization.
