The member representing Anaocha Two Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu has charged foodstuffs dealers in his constituency to apply all the precautionary measures instituted by the state government to contain the spread of COVID-19.


Honourable Okechukwu made the call while sensitizing foodstuffs sellers at Oye Neni Market, Anaocha Local Government Area on coronavirus pandemic.


House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that Honourable Okechukwu made it clear that the State Government is doing everything possible to shut out COVID-19 from the state and needs everyone’s cooperation to succeed.


He therefore urged market women to wear face masks at all times, maintain social distancing, observe stringent personal hygiene practices and wash their hands as often as possible with soap and running water as these have been proven to be the most potent methods of preventing the spread of the virus.


He disclosed that government has directed security agencies to arrest and punish accordingly anybody caught selling foodstuffs without face masks, urging the women to consider the threat of coronavirus pandemic to human existence and fully support efforts against its spread.


On his part, the Transition Committee Chairman, Anaocha Local Government Area, Mr. Patrick Onyedum regretted that Covid-19 has claimed thousands of lives in many countries including US and Italy with all their health infrastructure and called on all to join hands with the state government to win the war against the pandemic.


Honourable Okechukwu and his team also visited other food markets at Aguluzoigbo, Akwaeze, Ichida, Obeledu and Nri where they enlightened them on all they need to know about COVID-19 and efforts of the state government to arrest the deadly virus.


The coronavirus sensitization programme was also extended to all the foodstuffs markets at Adazi-Ani, Adazi-Enu, Adazi-Nnukwu and Agulu communities where his Anaocha One Constituency counterpart, Honourable Ebele Ejiofor urged them to carry out all the state government directives on coronavirus pandemic to contain its spread.
