Stakeholders in Umuakwu Village Enugwu-Ukwu, in Njikoka Local
Government Area, have presented a cash of Ten Thousand Naira each to
identified indigent members of the community to help cushion the
effects of the sit-at-home order issued by the Anambra State
Government as part of measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus in
the State.

While presenting the cash to the Vice Chairman, Umuakwu Community
Development Union, Mr Ray Akpamgbo at the palace of the traditional
ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, one of the co-ordinators of
the group, and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the
Anambra Broadcasting Service, Chief Uche Nworah said eighty-one
persons will benefit in the first phase.


They include widows, unemployed youths, the aged and sick members of
the village.

He said that more people will benefit as contributions come in,
through the village association under the Chairmanship of Rotarian
Onyii Okafor.

In a remark, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh commended the people of Umuakwu village
for mobilizing and raising funds to support indigent members of the
village at this time.


He expressed satisfaction that the people of Enugwu-Ukwu are showing that they are their brothers and sisters’ keepers through their various
humanitarian acts.

The Vice Chairman of Umuakwu Community Development Union, Mr Ray
Akpamgbo pledged that the funds will be given out to the beneficiaries
and thanked the donors.


The event was witnessed by Comrade Bonny Ozo Nkwoaku, the
President-General of Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union, and some members of Igwe’s cabinet.
