The second test of the COVID-19 index case in Anambra State has returned negative.

Governor Willie Obiano, who made the announcement during a statewide broadcast at Aguleri, directed the State Commissioner for Health to discharge him.

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the Governor said that the thirty-six samples of contacts of the Index Case who have been traced have been submitted for test, promising to keep updating ndi Anambra with the progress made.

Governor Obiano, who reiterated that boundaries in the State remain closed, stressed that it is now mandatory for anybody walking on the streets of Anambra, to wear masks, which will be enforced by Traditional Rulers, Presidents General, Women and Youth Leaders, among other stakeholders.
He however encouraged ndi Anambra to wear their handmade masks, but avoid using nylon or polyester materials, owing to its health disadvantages.
The Governor who is the Chairman of the State COVID-19 Committee, commended ndi Anambra for their resilience in the face of the harsh effects of the pandemic and restated that only essential service providers are allowed to traverse Anambra boundaries.

While calling for collaborative efforts in the fight against the pandemic, Governor Obiano said that food markets and drug market at Onitsha will only open on Tuesdays and Fridays, urging everyone to maintain the COVID-19 principles and directives.

The Governor thanked donors who have generously
donated to the COVID-19 fund, health workers, security operatives and all who are at the forefront of the fight, asking people to always call the emergency numbers as the need arises.
