It is a thing of joy that many individuals and organizations have heeded the call to donate funds and materials to assist Government in its fight against COVID-19. One of such individuals is the traditional Prime Minister of Awa in Orumba North local government, Chief Israel Okeke-Ezue, JP, who made a cash donation of one million naira in support of the fight.

In addition, Chief Ezue, on Easter eve, used his foundation, the Omeluora Israel Ezue Foundation, to disburse more than five hundred bags of rice, with ten thousand naira to each of the beneficiary in Awa, including non indigenes in the area. The benevolence is worthy of emulation.

Chief Ezue, a philanthropist par excellence, has been practicing the art for more than a decade, unnoticed. He has been helping the poor, building houses for people, offering scholarships to indigent but brilliant students, and pupils and, above all, giving money to people, especially youths, to engage in one business of the other.

Chief Israel Okeke Ezue, JP, Omelora Awa is a quintessential and accomplished business man and community leader. On December 24, 2019, Chief Ezue disbursed over six hundred bags of rice and some kilograms of meat to each indigent person in Awa. Ndi Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and those from other towns living in Awa also benefited

Chief Ezue is happily married to Mrs. Ogochukwu Ezue, Osodieme. He was born on May 24, 1969 at Umuefu village, Awa. Omelora started his business in 1988 at Benin in the old Bendel State. He later moved to Kano where God multiplied his ventures. With his business name, Whitegate International Ventures Limited, Chief Israel Ezue became the sole importer of Maxxix and West Lake Tyres. He also established WhiteGate Hotels in Awa. So far, he employed over one thousand people.

Omelora, apart from building houses for over thirty indigent people, empowering over one hundred people to either kick start or boost their businesses, Chief Israel Ezue, Omelora has also been distributing shuttle buses, tricycles, commuter buses, trucks and lorries to youths in the town to divert their minds from unwholesome behaviors.

Chief Israel Ezue (Omelora) equally renovated the Afor Awa Market and installed street lights in the community. Again, he contributed in the building of the Reverend Father’s House, while he single handedly built the Grotto and the chapel, belfry, parameter fencing of the Church and the church gate at Saint Michael’s Church, Awa.

He also contributed in building the church. This has prompted the Awka Catholic Diocese to confer him the title of Mayor of Awka Catholic Diocese, while the parishioners of Saint Michael’s Awa gave him the title, Ikemba and Ide of Saint Michael’s Awa.

Chief Ezue also mounted solar street lights in the church premises and furnished the church with pews, reroofed the Reverend father’s house with long span roofing sheet and contributed in building an ultra modern office complex at Saint Michael’s parish, Awa which was commissioned by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor on May 19, 2019.

Through his Foundation, people living with disabilities are assisted with either cash or walking tools. Chief Israel Ezue usually celebrates various social events with widows, the less privileged and those who cannot afford to fend for themselves. He has also been supportive of the State Government’s programmes and policies. He is an apostle of peace. Omelora is the kind of people that need to be appreciated for all their good works.

Various tiers of government should seek such philanthropist as Chief Israel Ezue and place their names in the national honours’ list and their halls of fame. Be that as it may, all efforts should be made to promote the good ideals for which Chief Israel Ezue is known for. This will spur him to use his large heart to invest his God-given wealth for an improved society.
