The Bishop on the Niger, the Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo has donated relief materials worth over thirty million naira targeted to touch more than five thousand homes in the diocese.
The consignments of goods includes five thousand fifty kilogram of rice, beans, beverages, noodles, and tubers of yam.
Bishop Nwokolo during the presentation of the relief materials to all the Archdeacons of various Archdeaconries under the Diocese for onward distribution to the people at the Bishop’s Court, Onitsha noted that families are finding it difficult to feed this period of lockdown as a result of COVID-19, and said the Diocese deemed it necessary to send reliefs mostly to people in rural areas to alleviate their hunger and to complement state government’s efforts.
Bishop Nwokolo explained that his Archdeacons will deliver the goods to parishes whereby selected observers will be sent to ensure that the materials get to targeted beneficiaries and enjoined Ndi Anambra to keep observing social distancing and intensify prayers for God to heal the land of the coronavirus pandemic which surpasses human understanding.
The President of the Women Ministry of Diocese on the Niger and wife of the Bishop, Dr. Elsie Nwokolo, urged mothers to use this period of lockdown to build relationship in their homes, educate their children, draw closer to God and plan ahead as COVID-19 will definitely end . She advised mother’s also to utilize the reliefs and observe hygiene in their homes.
In a remark, the Archdeacon in charge of Onitsha Archdeaconry Venerable Obi Ubaka, thanked the Bishop for the bold step taken to reach out to the poor and promised that the goods will be shared accordingly.
The Bishop and Archdeacons wore nose masks and maintained social distancing throughout the briefs thus reinforcing the need for people to keep to the directives on COVID-19 to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.
