Anambra State Association of Women in the United States of America, known as ASA-Women USA Cancer Coalition, has donated the sum of one million naira to Anambra state government in support of its efforts in combating Covid-19 in the state.

While speaking shortly after presenting the cheque to the state government, the Founder of the association, Dr. Mrs. Uche Umeh, represented by the Nigeria Coordinator of the organization, Mrs. Onyinye Umeh-Nweke commended the efforts of the state government so far in fighting Covid-19 pandemic, saying that the gesture was aimed at making the fight more effective.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the state government, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu thanked the group for the support, and testified that the state government has continued to receive tremendous support from Ndi Anambra in the fight against the pandemic calling for more assistance.

In their various remarks, two patrons of the organization, a former Commissioner for Information, Chief Maja Umeh, and the former Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike, commended Governor Willie Obiano for working tirelessly in ensuring that the index record of the state Covid-19 does not increase and observed that the present administration’s ability to establish Oxygen Plant House in the state before now, will go a long way in helping the fight against the disease.

They called on the general public to always adhere to preventive measures against the pandemic, and appealed to security personnel in the state to avoid intimidation and harassment of civilians in the enforcement of the lockdown order.
