It was songs of praise as Christians in different denominations witnessed a congregational service for the first time following the relaxation of some restrictions by the Anambra State government over coronavirus.

Some of the relaxed restrictions included holding church services but in total compliance with government directives of wearing face masks and regular washing of hands with soap and running clean water in addition to proper use of hand sanitizers.

The services according to our Religion Correspondent Amaka Chibuzor Okoye were in total observance of social distancing and not up to twenty worshippers in each service conducted.

According to our correspondent the service was divided either into three or four sections to ensure that the people do not cluster and maintained government’s directive of wearing face masks.

At the Chapel of Redemption, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Temporary Site Awka, the Chaplain, Venerable Benson Udezo whose sermon centered on the Good Shepherd and the flock said God has remained the protector of the faithful.

Venerable Udezo commended the Obiano administration for its fight against the virus in the State.

At the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Retreat Center, Okpuno, Reverend Father Linus Ibekwe in a homily, said that the present situation portrays what the early missionaries witnessed.

Reverend Father Ibekwe noted that relationship and interactions with Christ bring hope, and strength.

Two of the parishioners, Messrs Bob Manuel Udokwu and John Ifejika said it is not easy wearing face masks during Church service but stressed the need to comply with the government directives so as to save lives.
Series of prayers were offered for God’s continued blessings upon His people and the State.
