Ndi Umuawulu community in Awka South council area have been counting
their blessings with series of palliatives being donated to indigent
people in the community by the affluent people in the area.
This was the testimony on the lips of the beneficiaries numbering
three hundred who received ten kilogrammes bag of rice each from a
philanthropist in the community, Chief Ikechukwu Nwozor.
Correspondent Ngozi Obileri covered the event which took place at
Saint Marks Anglican church, Umuawulu.
Appreciating their benefactor Chief Nwozor , two of the beneficiaries Mr. Osita Okpala and Mrs. Nwuka
Okpala, thanked God for the love existing in the community which has
been evident in the series of distribution of food items and cash to
the less privileged people in the area.
They also thanked Governor Willie Obiano for taking the lead in
caring for the welfare of indigent ones in the state by donating six
hundred bags of rice each to all the communities in the state, for the
youths and the elderly.
Handing over the bags of rice to the chairmen of the three villages in
the community, the traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu,
thanked God for the love shown to his community by affluent sons and
daughters of the community who have been consistent in sending
palliatives for indigent persons in the area to cushion the effect of
the economic hardship .
Igwe Egwuonwu thanked especially Governor Obiano for his foresight and
effective m to contain the Covid-19 pandemic which he said yielded
positive results.
The President General of the community Chief Iyke Nkala, while thanking those who have donated palliative materials to the
community so far, reminded the people to continue to maintain guard
even when the lockdown order has been relaxed by washing their hands
regularly, using of face masks, social distancing, and not to carry out
any ceremony until state government lifts ban on such activities.
The Priest in charge of Saint Marks Anglican Church Reverend Canon
Nnamdi Ajoku and a sister to the benefactor Lady Ogoor Nmbachili,
thanked God for the peace in Umuawulu community and commended the
benefactor for showing love to the less privileged in the community.
The Priest had earlier prayed over the bags of rice and the people of
the community.
