Most Reverend Peter Ebele Okpalaeke has been installed as the pioneer
Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia.
The event which took place at Saint Joseph’s Cathedral Ekwulobia in
Aguata Local Government Area attracted Governor Willie Obiano, the
religious, traditional rulers and friends of Bishop Okpalaeke
including Priests from both Catholic and Anglican denominations.
The Pontifical Mass was officiated by the Metropolitan Archbishop of
Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province Most Reverend Valerian Okeke.
The Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia was carved out from the Awka Diocese.
In a homily, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical
Province, Most Reverend Okeke, said the creation of the new
Diocese, calls for robust evangelism and reminded Bishop Okpalaeke that he has been called to offer guidelines, in addition to strengthening and shepherding the flock of the new Diocese of Ekwulobia.
The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor
at the beginning of the Mass, thanked God for his marvelous deed,
commending Pope Francis for approving the creation of the Diocese of
Ekwulobia.
He expressed confidence that Most Reverend Okpalaeke with his wealth
of experience in priesthood will lead the flock of the Diocese aright.
