The Anambra State House of Assembly Special Committee on COVID-19 has
mandated the Management of all restaurants in the state to obey the
law on COVID-19 or risk total shut down.

The Committee gave the directive when it inspected some restaurants in
Awka to ascertain their level of compliance with the law on COVID-19.

House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that when the committee arrived at Nourisha Fast Food restaurant at Unizik Junction, it met their sales personnel and customers without face
mask.

It frowned at such ugly development and recommended that the
Restaurant should face the full weight of the law for failure to
comply with the law on COVID-19.

At Crunches and De Mummy’s restaurants, their sales personnel covered
their nose and mouth with improvised face masks on sighting the
Committee, while the Committee condemned the act in its entirety.

In an interview, the Chairman, State House of Assembly Special
Committee on COVID-19, Dr Paschal Agbodike, mandated the management of the restaurants to run comply with COVID-19 preventive code
which includes compulsory wearing of the face masks by their staff and
customers, maintenance of physical distancing, provision of running
water and soap, hand sanitizers among others to contain the spread of
coronavirus pandemic in the state.

On his part, the Manager of Crunches Restaurant in Awka, Mr Emmanuel
Udeala assured the Committee that they will abide by the law on
COVID-19 for their own safety and commended the committee for living
up to expectations.

At Offiaku Restaurant, Roban Stores, Five Star Restaurant all in Awka,
the committee observed that they complied with the directive on
COVID-19 to a reasonable extent and urged them to maintain it.

The Committee also visited the Amansea boundary at old road and met it closed.

It commended the security personnel there for complying with the
directive on COVID-19.

The Committee also visited Ekwulobia Urban Mass Transit Park at Awka
where it met their bus drivers loading passengers without face mask
and admonished them against such ugly act.

A member of the Committee, Honourable Patrick Udeoba also urged Ndi
Anambra to compliment government efforts against coronavirus by
obeying the law on COVID-19 to arrest the infectious disease
