Anambra State Government has strengthened its enforcement of the
boundary closure by involving Community efforts.
To this end Political appointees have been drafted to various
boundaries to support enforcement actions by the Police and other
security agencies.
Also porous and informal boundary points identified in various local
Communities with little presence of formal security personnel will
henceforth be manned by the youths who will help prevent any form of
movement into the State from those locations.
A release signed by the Secretary to the Anambra State Government
Professor Solo Chukwulobeleu noted that the initiative is to support
existing and laudable efforts of the Police and other agencies and not
to replace them.
According to the statement, Vigilante groups in all boundary
Communities have been fully activated to support youths and law
enforcement agencies to enforce the boundary closure and called on
Traditional rulers and Presidents-General of affected Communities to
ensure a follow up action.
The statement maintained that, trucks and all vehicles conveying food
and other essential goods must be searched to ensure that they are not
transporting human beings.
According to the statement, ambulances and vehicles conveying dead
bodies are to be denied access until strict clarification on the cause
of death is confirmed by the State Ministry of Health and conveyed by
the Commissioner for Health to the Commissioner of Police in respect
of each deceased.
It maintained that independent monitoring teams have been set up to
oversee the activities of the political appointees and youths posted
as well as the general enforcement of the boundary closure.
It urges all indigenes of Anambra State to remain wherever they are in
the country for the time being.
