The Provost, Federal College of Education Technical, Umunze, Dr Tessy
Okoli, has stressed the need for enlightenment programmes in the
hinterlands as part of efforts to prevent Community transmission of
Coronavirus pandemic.

Dr Okoli gave the advice when she led some Management Staff of the
College on a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Umunze, in
Orumba South Local Government Area, Igwe Promise Eze, to sensitize the
Community on the need to adhere strictly to safety standards
recommended by health professionals to prevent the spread of COVID 19
in the area.

The Provost decried the rising death toll in different countries of
the world as a result of coronavirus noting that preventive measures
need to be taken seriously by everybody, especially the compulsory use
of face masks, social distancing, regular hand-washing and use of hand
sanitizers.

She further explained that the College took a proactive step by
producing low cost face-masks and hand sanitizers to support the fight
against the deadly virus.

Dr Okoli noted that the College Management also took a decisive step
by making the use of face masks compulsory within the school premises,
and urged the Community to key into the directive of the Anambra State
government in the compulsory use of face masks.

The Provost commended Governor Willie Obiano, for the proper handling
of the index case in the state, and continued surveillance on State
boundaries to ensure that Anambra remains free from COVID-19.

During the visit, the College donated face masks and palliative
materials including two hundred tubers of yam, bags of rice and beans
to be distributed to families in need.

Receiving the relief materials, Igwe Eze, thanked the College for
responding to the needs of the people and promised that the
palliatives will be judiciously distributed to families to alleviate
their burdens.
