Anambra State Council of the Trade Union Congress has joined its
counterparts all over the World to observe this year’s Worker’s day,
though in a low key due to the COVID-19 pandemic which is currently
ravaging the International Community.
A release signed by the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Ifeanyi
Okechukwu and Secretary Comrade Alex Ebi described workers as the
engine room of any government as well as the drivers of the economy.
The release noted that workers deserve to be treated well for them to
feel the inestimable services they render to the society.
It thanked Governor Willie Obiano for being worker-friendly as well as
all the stimulus packages his administration had given to Ndi Anambra
and residents of the State, which positively touched the lives of the
workers calling for sustenance.
The release appealed to governments at different levels to always make
policies and programmes that will better the lots of the Nigerian
worker.
Meanwhile, the State President of the Nigeria Union of Local
Government Employees NULGE, Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe has called on the workers to be more dedicated to duty.
Speaking on this year’s Worker’s Day in Awka, Comrade Adigwe described
workers as the engine room of the Nation’s economy and called on them
to avoid acts capable of portraying them in bad light.
He called on government at different levels not to allow the workers
to go on industrial action before their entitlements and other
emoluments are paid.
Comrade Adigwe, commended Governor Willie Obiano for his prompt
payment of worker’s salaries in addition to other empowerments and
called on workers to reciprocate the gesture by being committed and
dedicated to duty.
The Anambra State NULGE President, who maintained that local
government workers are not lacking in any of the government
empowerments, pointing out that such has enabled them to be more
proactive in their service to the State.
