Achina sons and daughters both at home and in the Diaspora have distributed food items to one thousand indigent persons in the community to cushion the economic effect of the novel coronavirus.
The food items were distributed to the twenty quarters that make up the community in an event that took place at Achia Town Hall, Aguata Council area. Blessing Uchendu reports that the items included one thousand bags of ten kilogram of Rice, one thousand bags of five kilograms Beans, two thousand tubers of Yam, cartons of tomato paste and cartons of noodles.
Making the presentation to the President General of Achina Progressive Union, the chairman of Achina COVID-19 Emergency Palliative Project, Mr. Ekene Obieli, and the former President General of Achina, Mr. Obiora Ezechukwu, said that most families are finding it difficult to feed at this period of the pandemic, hence the need to initiated a-ten-man committee to plan on how to source for income to send relief items to the less privileged in the community.
Receiving the items on behalf of the town, the President General of Achina, Mr. Henry Ezeunara, thanked the committee for the bold step taken to reach out to the poor and promised that the items would be shared accordingly.
Reacting, the traditional ruler of Achina, Igwe Godwin Obiora, represented by Ichie John Okpala, commended the committee, Igwe- in-Council, Achina Citizens Forum and League of Achina Women Professionals for their support and urged them to sustain it.
The representatives of some of the quarters, including Chief Sunday Uzoezie, Mr. Edwin Ndiokwelu and Mrs. Josephine Ezenachi, expressed happiness over the gesture and prayed God to replenish them abundantly.
