Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union,
EBU, has embarked on a peaceful protest against the invasion of their
land by some individuals, alledgedly from a neighbouring community,
warning them to desist from their already inherited territory.
The protesters who warned the encroachers from further trespassing on
their land, explained that the land is situated at Trans-Obibia
Layout, close to Dumo farms behind Nigeria Television Authority,
Mbanano village Enugwu-agidi Njikoka Local Government Area.
Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata reports that
on arrival to the land location, it was gathered that perimeter fences
have been built round the land by the alleged trespassers.
The protesters were carring placards with inscriptions like “Criminal
Invasion on Enugwu-Agidi land” “Inspector General of Police please
intervene” Our People are always harassed with Armed Militias”. They
expressed their grievances and called on relevant authorities to come
to their rescue.
Briefing Newsmen after the protest, The President General of the
Community, Sir Ndubuisi Obijiofor, said the Community has secured two
Court Judgement both in 1954 and 2013, adding that the 2013 Judgement
was delivered by the current Chief Judge of Anambra State, with a
perpetual injunction against their aggressor, who was the plaintiff.
He stressed that
Enugwu-Agidi community is peace loving and therefore appealed to the
state government and other relevant authorities to wade into the
matter to resolve it amicably to avoid degenerating into communal
conflict.
The President General informed those who have given money to the
encroachers in the hope of buying land, to collect back their money
and urged those already building some structures on the land to vacate
with immediate effect.
Sir. Ndubuisi who further revealed that the Community vigilante group
were last month attacked by miscreants on the same place and made it
clear that Ndi Enugwu-agidi are holding tight the court judgement and
must always exercise right over the said property.
He regretted that the alledged trespassers have taken the advantage of
the lockdown to wade in and sell their lands.
In his reaction, an indigene of the Mbanano village Enugwu-Agidi, Mr.
Peter Onuekwusi, bemoaned the illegal encroachment of their property
and called for urgent government intervention.
