Federal government has through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs,
Disaster Management and Social Development, handed over some
palliatives to Anambra state government to distribute to indigent
persons in the state.
Officials of the Ministry led by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs,
Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq,
represented by Deputy Director in the ministry, Mr. Charles Nwanelo,
handed over the items to the state government at the Government House
Awka.
Items handed over to the state by the Ministry included one thousand,
eight hundred fifty kilogram bags of rice, and two thousand, four
hundred cartons of tomato pastes.
The state is yet to receive six hundred cartons of vegetable oil from
the ministry.
The Palliatives which are to be distributed to indigent persons in
Anambra state, are part of the federal government’s efforts towards
reducing hunger among the citizenry this period of Coronavirus
pandemic.
Speaking shortly after receiving the items, Governor Willie Obiano
represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke thanked the federal
government for ensuring that the state benefits from the scheme, and
promised that the government will ensure that the packages get to the
persons they are meant for.
The Governor called for unity of purpose among Nigerians in the fight
against Covid-19 to enable the country win the war against the virus.
Earlier while handing over the items to the state government, the
Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development,
Minister Farouq, represented by Deputy Director in the ministry, Mr.
Nwanelo said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the effects of the
lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak on the
citizenry, and called on Anambra state government to ensure that the
items are properly distributed to deserving persons in the state.

Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don
Adinuba, and Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo
Chukwulobelu.
