Farming has been described as the major tool through which the country and the world at large could be saved from untold hunger and suffering after COVID-19 pandemic.
The chairman of Anambra state “Ugbo Azuno” Committee, Mr. Primus Odili made gave the description, during the committee’s live sensitization program on ABS radio.
“Ugbo Azuno Committeeā€¯, was inaugurated on May eighth, 2020 by Governor Willie Obiano, to mobilize Ndi Anambra towards aggressive cultivation of vegetables and other economic plants in their homes.
Pointing out that families spend hundreds of naira daily on vegetables, Mr. Odili said it is necessary for Ndi Anambra to go back to Ugbo Azuno as it will help to reduce unnecessary expenses for them.
He encouraged Ndi Anambra to continue to adhere to preventive measures against COVID-19 pandemic to remain free and safe.
In their separate speeches, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, Executive Secretary, Anambra state Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, Mr. Simeon Onyemaechi and the Managing Director, Anambra state Fire Service, Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi advised the people to replace uneconomic trees with economic ones, avoid total interlocking of their compounds, desist from much consumption of western foods and go back to local foods and vegetables as they contain nutrients that help to fight diseases.
On his part, the state Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Mr. Afam Mbanefo called on Anambra youths to be actively involved in agriculture to fight hunger and food scarcity.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Nnamdi Onukwuba while relating the commitments of the present administration towards helping farmers in the state for bumper harvest, said Ndi Anambra could contact the state Ministry of Agriculture for help on 08033022182, 08036679473, or 08037725172.
