Anambra State Association, Baltimore Metropolitan Incorporated, United
States of America, ASA Baltimore, USA, has donated medical supplies
estimated at four million naira to Anambra state government to support
the fight against the novel coronavirus in the state.

ASA Baltimore, USA, is a socio-cultural association of Anambra natives
living in Baltimore Metropolitan, a city in Central Maryland, United
States of America.

Items donated by the association included ten thousand eight hundred
pieces of face masks, one hundred sets of gowns, googles and surgical
masks, two hundred pieces of N-95 masks, fifty pieces of face shields,
three hundred pieces of surgical masks, one hundred bottles of 500ml
of hand sanitizers and two hundred pieces of hand gloves.

The Secretary to Anambra State Government, Professor Solo
Chukwulobelu, who received the donation on behalf of the state
government, noted that the association had shown the age-long Igbo
uniqueness of reaching out to home, adding that it was such fraternal
love that has bonded the ethnic group strongly over time.

The leader of the ASA Baltimore, USA delegation, Dr Joseph Ekwutife,
who spoke on behalf of the President of the Association, said that
part of the motivation for the donation was in appreciation of
Governor Willie Obiano’s efforts in building a formidable state where
safety, economic and social welfare are promoted , stating that the
Association remained supportive of the great works of the present
administration.

In their separate remarks, the members representing Njikoka
Constituencies One and Two at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr
Tim Ifedioramma and Honourable Pete Ibida, who witnessed the donation,
noted that what ASA Baltimore, USA did was an example of the true
spirit of love and sacrifice, considering that America is one of the
country’s worst-hit by the deadly virus.

A member of the Association, Dr Jude Akpua, in an interview, said that
the gesture should serve as a motivation to other groups to come
forward and show support to the government in waging war against the
coronavirus pandemic.

Anambra state Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, his
predecessor, Dr Joe Akabuike and the traditional ruler of Ifitedunu,
Igwe Emeka Ilouno, among others, were present at the event.
