The Traditional Ruler of Umumbo in Ayamelum Local Government Area,
Igwe Simeon Chukwudum has urged the River Basin Authority, handling
the farm land allocation at the Lower Anambra Irrigation Project, to
be fair and careful, to ensure lasting peace in the area.

Igwe Chukwudum who made the call while speaking to the ABS, identified
what he called indiscriminate allocation of the farm land to farmers
in the area as the remote cause of the crisis.

He explained that the disputed land which belongs to the Federal
government was never allotted to Umumbo as a community nor Omor, but
to clusters of farmers in E-seventy-one, E-seventy-two, E-eight,
E-nine, and E-ten, respectively.

He advised the people of Omor and Umumbo to sheath their swords and
embrace peace, saying that both communities are brothers and should
not allow mere misunderstanding to truncate the brotherly love they
have shared from time immemorial.

Igwe Chukwudum, however, thanked the Anambra State government, Anambra
State Police Command, and other security agencies in the state for
promptly wading into the matter which he said would have claimed more
lives and property.
