Anambra state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, has described the efforts of the Obiano administration to contain the coronavirus pandemic as second to none in Nigeria.

In a statement issued after a meeting of its state executive committee, at its secretariat at Amawbia, the NUP said “the diligence and efficiency” with which the state government has managed the plague probably explains why Anambra state is one of the states in Nigeria not seriously afflicted by the deadly disease.

The statement, signed by its chairman, Dr. Anthony Ugozor and Secretary, Deacon Emmanuel Ebo, the pensioners described the prompt treatment and discharge of the index case as “professional and clinical”, pointing out that it served as an assurance to the citizenry that the state government is truly prepared for “all eventualities and contingencies” in the war against the COVID-19 scourge.

The retirees also said that they are happy that arrangements have been completed by the Obiano administration for accreditation of completed coronavirus testing centers at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka and the General Hospital, Onitsha.

The Anambra NUP expressed gratitude to Governor Obiano for regular payment of the pensions and other entitlements of their members and urged him not to relent in his compassionate dispositions.
While renewing their vote of confidence on Chief Obiano as “the most pensioners friendly governor in the history of Anambra state, the NUP equally gave kudos to him for providing palliatives and motivating good spirited citizens of the state to come to the aid of many less privileged persons in the one hundred and eighty-one communities of the state in this period of COVID-19 menace.

The state chapter of NUP also described the setting up of the Anambra Vision 2070 Committee headed by a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Soludo as a “futuristic measure aimed at guaranteeing enduring socioeconomic growth and development of the state for another fifty years.

The Union further implored Ndi Anambra to sustain their massive support and cooperation with the Obiano administration in order to encourage it to sustain its impressive delivery of democracy dividends in the state.
