Anambra State Govt Embarks On Aggressive Demolition Of Illegal Structures Under High High Tension Cables
Anambra state government has embarked on an aggressive demolition of illegal structures under high tension cables following several notices to owners to remove them.

The exercise, which is a continuous one, is aimed at enforcing development control within the Awka Capital Territory.
Ebele Ezeh reports that the a team of management and staff of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, men of the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and Operation Clean And Health Anambra, OCHA Brigade, kicked off the demolition exercise along Club Road, formally Abakaliki Street Awka with a pail loader.

Speaking at the exercise , the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa, who stated that they will not relent in their actions until people understand the health implications of building under the high tension cables, warned that defaulters would face the full weight of the law plus outright demolition.

Venerable Okwuosa while describing the exercise as partial demolition, urged land buyers to always consult ACTDA before buying any land within the Awka Capital Territory.

He reminded developers of the standing law that stipulates a fifty-two point five meter setback from the central median before any perimeter fence.

One of the owners of a demolished perimeter fence, Mr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu, who denied that he was served any notice, called for uniform enforcement of the law in the area.

A shanti owner from Ebonyi State, Mrs. Ngozi Okoye ,who affirmed that they were served many quit notices since August last year, blamed their none-compliance to inability to find an alternative place.

Mrs. Okoye applauded the initiative noting that their constant stay under the high tension cables affects their health.
