The need for people to engage themselves in various skills to earn a living has been stressed.
The Bishop on the Niger, Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo gave the charge during the 2020 Diocesan Homage Service with the theme “Celebrating the King” at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha.
Bishop Nwokolo reminded Christians that God did not create them to idle away on earth rather they were made to join him in the work of creation by changing things to conform to his image through their endeavours, adding that hard work contributes to one’s happiness, self esteem and rewards financially.
The Prelate, who noted the effects of COVID-19 on the economy, encouraged Christians not to be disillusioned as their life is not controlled by circumstances but by God who gives hope to humanity.
The Bishop further prayed for sons and daughters of the Diocese and blessed objects of their businesses.
In a sermon, the Vicar, Immanuel Anglican Church, Onitsha, Venerable Joseph Nweke who highlighted the importance of prayer in the life of a Christian, urged people to look unto God who is the foundation of their faith.
Venerable Nweke who regretted the negative activities of some Christians in the house of God told Christians to examine their roles in the church and shun evil.
The Sub Dean, All Saints Cathedral Onitsha, while commending the Bishop and the wife for their efforts in the Diocese, maintained that in the midst of COVID-19, God is still in charge of the affairs of man.
The Homage Service was done under strict observance of social distancing with the entire congregation putting on their nose mask while Archdeacons from the nineteen Archdeaconries under the Diocese led some parishioners to the special service.
