COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on the economy, has necessitated the
introduction of ‘Ugbo Azu Uno’ scheme by the Anambra State Government.

To this end, the management of Anambra Newspapers Printing and
Publishing Corporation, the publishers of National Light, has unveiled
a cottage garden owned by its staff members including the Managing
Director and Editor in Chief Sir Chuka Nnabuife.

Unveiling the garden, the Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on
Farm Implements, Chief Paul Nwosu, represented by the Managing
Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Clear Drainage and
Forest Preservation Agency, Mr Chido Obidiegwu while commending the
initiative, called on others to emulate such venture , for both economic gains and food sufficiency.

Speaking to the gathering of less than thirty persons and also while
observing the COVID-19 preventive guidelines, the Director-General of
Anambra Digital Entrepreneurship Office, Mr Ifeanyi Aniagoh who viewed
the initiative as timely, commended the Anambra State government for
being committed and investing heavily in Agriculture which according
to him has helped in sustaining the State food security.

He announced that plans are in top gear for the launching of Anambra
E-farming to help solve the problems facing farmers in the State as
farming does not end in cultivation of crops.

Earlier in an opening remarks, the Managing Director and Editor in
Chief of Anambra Newspapers Printing and Publishing Corporation, Sir
Chuka Nnabuife who noted that the initiative will help curb the post
COVID-19 economic challenges, stressed the need for the State
citizenry to venture into agriculture.

On his part, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the
Anambra Signage and Advertisement Agency, Chief Jude Emecheta, pointed
out that the initiative will reduce the pressure on food Markets in
addition to reducing prices of food items.
