The Enugwu-Ukwu Community in Njikoka Council Area has apologized to the ABS and Nigeria Union of Journalists over attack on ABS News Crew by youths of the town.

twenty-first May 2020 protested over the unfortunate killing of a youth in the community, late Anthony Okafor who died on Wednesday night, twentieth May, 2020 while being chased by a police vehicle for violating curfew order, and was hit by another vehicle.

The protesters had blocked the Enugwu-Ukwu axis of the Old Enugu-Onitsha express road with placards disrupting vehicular movement and economic activities in the area.

The furry of the youths also led them to molest the crew of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS who were on an official duty to cover the protest.

The crew among whom were Chibuzo Obidike ABS Reporter and Mr. Patrick Nnatuanya, ABS Bus Driver were manhandled and injured while Chukwualuka Nnamekwue Cameraman was also injured and is currently hospitalized.

The traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh at his palace on Saturday, twenty-third May, 2020 alongside members of his cabinet, representatives of youths of Enugwu-Ukwu as well as the family of the deceased in a press briefing, apologized to the management and staff of Anambra Broadcasting Service and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the incident and described the incident as a horrible period for the Community.

He said that the unjustified killing of the deceased was not a justification to molest other people.

The monarch asked the offended persons to forgive as the community and Journalists enjoy good relationship, especially since one of their sons, Chief Uche Nworah is also a journalist.
