People living with sickle cell anemia have been charged to live life
of hope with a strong faith in God.
The Bishop on the Niger, Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo who gave the
charge when he interacted with young persons living with sickle cell
disorder in Anambra State at the Bishop’s Court Onitsha, to mark the
2020 Children’s Day, assured them that there is always hope in Christ.
Bishop Nwokolo urged them to continually walk by faith and not by
sight advising them not to allow any situation in life to intimidate
them and commended the National Coordinator of Association
of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, Mrs. Aisha Edwards, for
her consistency in notifying the Diocese and her role in catering for
the sickle cell persons.
The Coordinator Mrs. Aisha Edwards in an address, narrated what she
described as the ordeal of the members of the Association as according
to her, a good number of the children are hidden indoors by their
parents to protect the ego and image of their families.
She explained that members have little access to good health during
crisis and consequently appealed to the Bishop to allow the
Association access the Diocesan Iyi- Enu hospital for medical
attention, which the Bishop obliged.
Bishop Nwokolo also presented bags of rice and cartoons of noodles to
the young persons living with sickle cell disorder while the Diocesan
Chaplain, Venerable Joel Akunazobi thanked the Bishop for his support
to the Association.
