Five hundred and sixty vulnerable individuals in Nnewi have received
various food items from the people of Nnewi living in the United
States of America under the umbrella of Nnewi USA-NUSA as part of
palliatives to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on them.

The foodstuffs were distributed at the palace of the traditional ruler
of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu the third.

Paul Ezeoke reports that the beneficiaries were selected from the four quarters in Nnewi namely, Umudim, Uruagu, Otolo and Nnewi-Ichi with one hundred and forty people selected from each quarter.
The palliatives distributed included five hundred and sixty bags of
rice, five hundred and sixty bags of beans and five hundred and sixty
cartons of noodles.

The materials were shared through the Presidents-General of the four quarters.
Inaugurating the exercise, the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe
Kenneth Orizu the third commended members of the Association for
thinking of the welfare of the people at home despite the challenges
in the United States of America and prayed God to continue to bless
and protect them.

In his speech, one of the co-ordinators of the programme, Mr Mbadiwe
Okongwu said the foodstuffs were only for vulnerable individuals
selected from each quarter of the four towns and urged the
Presidents-General of the four quarters to distribute the materials
according to the names of the people in the list generated for the
palliative programme.

Also speaking another co-ordinator Dr Ugochukwu Uzodike said NUSA,
expended over four million naira for the intervention while each of
the beneficiaries will receive one bag of rice, one bag of beans and a
carton of noodles.

In their separate remarks, the Transition Committee Chairman for Nnewi
North Local Government Area, Prince Chukwudi Orizu and the
President-General of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi Sir Ugochukwu Udemezue commended
the benefactors for thinking home and advised other privileged
individuals and groups to extend similar gesture to the needy in the
area.

In their various reactions Chief Boniface Obi, Sir Dennis Ofodeme and
Emmanuel Agba, extolled the people of Nnewi in the United States of
America for identifying with the less privileged at this critical
time.
