A non-governmental organization, Aurick Foundation has staged a
sensitization campaign against rape within Awka and its environs.
The group embarked on the exercise to lend its voice against the
immoral act which recently tends to be the order of the day in this
part of the world.
The awareness campaign was kicked off at Arroma junction to
Nkwo-Amaenyi, and terminated at Regina Caeli junction.
Speaking at event, the Leader of the group, Mr Michael Ikeh who described rape
as inhuman and unacceptable act, regretted that people of this era
still indulge in such obnoxious act, and blamed law enforcement
agencies for not being on top of their game in handling such issues.
Mr Ikeh while calling for stiffer laws against rape in Nigeria,
recommended castration as the best penalty for rape when the
perpetrator of the act is a male, saying that such punishment will
help to drastically reduce the crime in today’s society.
He however called for all hands to be on deck in the fight against rape.
