Anambra state government has inaugurated an
eight – man administrative panel of inquiry into the Akili-Ogidi
Igweship crisis.

The panel has the Co- Chairman of Anambra Broadcasting Service Board
of Directors, and the Traditional Ruler of Nteje community, Igwe
Rowland Odegbo as its Chairman, and Senior Special Assistant to the
Governor on Special Duties, Mr Nwabufo Nwankwo as the Secretary.
Government House Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that other members of the committee include Anambra state Commissioner for
Youth Entrepreneurship and Creative Economy, Professor Theresa
Obiekezie, Traditional Ruler of Alor Community, Igwe Anthony Okonkwo,
that of Obosi community, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, Barristers Chike
Maduekwe, Vera Okechukwu, and Pat Igwebuike.

The Committee is required to thoroughly examine the Igweship tussle in
Akili-Ogidi community in which two different people, Ikechukwu
Sebastine Nwafili also known as Alanze Igwe, and Nwabueze Kingsley
Nwama also known as Udom-Eze, are laying claim to the traditional
rulership stool of the community, even though the state government has
not issued certificate of recognition to any of them.

The panel is to examine the culture, tradition and constitution of the
town to ascertain the genuineness or otherwise of the process through
which each contestant is claiming his legitimacy, and make
recommendation to the state government on the authentic choice of the
community for the throne.

In the course of its assignment, the committee may call for written
submissions, open hearing, and interview relevant people to facilitate
its work which is to be submitted to the state government in two weeks
time.

Inaugurating the panel, Governor Willie Obiano represented by his
Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke asked them to live up expectation by resolving
the Igweship tussle in Akili-Ogidi community.

Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Igwe Odegbo promised to
bring to an end the crisis and ensure that peace is restored in the
Community at the end of their assignment.
