Community leaders have been urged to ensure strict enforcement of COVID-19 safety protocols in their various areas to prevent further spread of the virus.
Speaking in Awka, the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Anambra State, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene said nobody should play with the threat and menace of the pandemic.
Paul Ezeoke reports that Chief Okeke Ogene said while the Obiano administration has demonstrated strong political will and determination to fight the virus, many Communities, Churches and Markets are yet to demonstrate the seriousness in the enforcement of the safety measures.
He pointed out that relaxing the restriction does not mean that the virus has gone, stressing that communities should ensure that people at burial and other social ceremonies do not exceed thirty who should wear face masks, maintain social distancing and regular hand washing protocols, adding that everyone should learn from what is happening in America, United Kingdom, Brazil and other countries.
Chief Okeke Ogene explained that collective resolve to fight the virus and commitment to safety measures will enable the State and the country to defeat the pandemic without much casualties.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Mr Ostar Christopher said the Governor’s proactive measures in sending political appointees, vigilante operatives and youths to guard State boundaries has greatly helped to check illegal entry of people from other States while surveillance and deployment of members of the State vigilante service to secure forest and bushes across the State has further strengthened the State security network.
According to Mr Christopher, the State Cattle Menace Control Committee has intensified measures to prevent farmers and herders clashes in the State by ensuring that adequate compensations are paid for crops destroyed by herders or cattle killed by farmers while government has further expanded its dragnet to ensure that unknown herders do not infiltrate the State to threaten the security apparatus.
He expressed satisfaction that the State mobile innovative digital surveillance cameras are yielding the desired goals in promoting security and commended the synergy and collaboration amongst security agencies in the State.
