The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Environment to commence work immediately at the erosion site in Amadunu Village, Nnobi to prevent casualty.
The House passed the resolution following a motion of urgent public importance sponsored to that effect by the member representing Idemili South Constituency, Honourable Chuka Ezenwune during yesterdays plenary.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that while explaining the motion, Honourable Ezenwune emphasized that the need for the ministry of Environment to rehabilitate the erosion site in view of the fact that it is threatening to cut the ever busy Afor-Nnobi-Nkwo-Nnewi road and make the area inaccessible.
Seconding the motion, the Minority Leader, Honourable Onyebuchi Ofor noted that if the erosion site is not rehabilitated urgently, the road will collapse and impose untold hardship on the people.
Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor while commending Governor Willie Obiano for his commitment to arresting all erosion sites in the state announced that the House has equally set up a special task force committee on environmental degradation to support Governor Willie Obiano in arresting erosion menace ravaging parts of the state.
Also at plenary, the Chairman, House of Assembly Special Task Force Committee on Environmental Degradation, Honourable Lawrence Ezeudu told the House that their findings showed that that ninety percent of erosion sites in the state were caused by human activities, assuring that the Committee is determined to put a final stop to it.
Supporting motion for adjournment, the member representing Awka North Constituency, Honourable John Nwokoye urged the House and Governor Willie Obiano to address the communal crisis between Achalla and Urum communities which had claimed lives
