Anytime Ndi Anambra are happy and satisfied with genuine efforts at
development by their government, they show it by contributing towards
realisation of such projects.
This appears the case with the efforts of the Willie Obiano led
administration which is receiving a boost with road palliatives
embarked upon by the Nawfija community.
But the rains are bringing their efforts to nothingness, and the
people feel bad that their contributions appear not to count.
This was observed by Works correspondent, Ngozi Obileri who monitored
development on the road.
The twenty two point two kilometer Nawfija -Ufuma-Ogbunka-Nawfija-Akpu road when awarded by the Obiano administration brought rays of hope to the community as past administrations in the state have neglected the area in terms of development.
That was why the people of Nawfija, led by their traditional ruler, Igwe
Clifford Okeke left no stone unturned to ensure that the road is
motorable as desired by the state government.
This they do by engaging heavy duty equipment to level parts of the
road that have been washed away by flood, aside from creation of over
thirty catchment pits across the community.
But the traditional ruler and his subjects became sad when flood from
recent rainfalls washed away all their efforts ,thereby making it
impossible for them to have assess in and out of the community
whenever it rained.
Lending his voice, the Vice President of the community’s Town Union Mr
Emeka Okeke who commended Governor Obiano for helping them to
complete the Health Center in the community as well as their town
hall, appealed to him to come to their aid as the level of work
required on that road is far beyond their ability.
Another stakeholder in the community Comrade Clifford Oraaba, listed
government’s presence in the state, which their community is also
enjoying, to include tight security in all parts of the state,
eradication of taxes and levies imposed on their wives and mothers,
payment of salaries as and when due.
He said they were the reasons why no school in the state has gone on
strike since the inception of the Obiano administration.
Comrade Oraaba however, pleaded with the government to come to their
aid by ensuring that work started again on the road to save their
homes and lives from being washed away due to the terrain of the area.
Meanwhile, ABS observed that a bridge has been constructed on the Alee
River in the community.
