Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Account has
commenced verification of the 2019 audited financial transactions of
ministries and Parastatals to ascertain how they expended funds
allocated to them in the year under review.

The exercise, holding at the House of Assembly Complex in Awka, is part of its constitutional responsibilities.

In his opening remark, the chairman of the committee, Honourable
Somtoochukwu Udeze explained that the exercise was not designed to
witch hunt anybody but to encourage accountability, probity and good
public account by MDAs.

Sir Somtoochukwu mandated all the Ministries, Parastatals and Agencies
coming for the verification to appear with all the relevant documents
that will enable them to do a thorough job.

The verification exercise, saw the Ministry of Health, led by the
Commissioner, Dr Vincent Okpala appeared before the committee and
rendered account of their allocation for the year 2019.
The Committee however expressed satisfaction with the processes that the ministry had put in place to ensure probity and good public account.

The management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching
Hospital Amaku, Awka, also appeared before the Committee and defended
their allocation for the year under review.
