The LandLords and Residents of Obeleagu-Nkisi-Aroli-Ogbuli-Nwavuli
Streets in Onitsha can now heave a sigh of relief following the
Anambra State Government’s intervention on the gully erosion that has
sunk over forty buildings and posed serious danger to property and
residents of the area.
The Nkisi-Aroli- Obeleagu erosion site was over thirty five meters deep.
Governor Willie Obiano who visited the erosion site in May immediately
mobilized the IDC Construction Company Limited to start immediate work
on the project and charged the construction company to within twenty
days construct a solid drainage between
Obeleagu-Nkisi-Aroli-Ogbuli-Nwavuli Streets and direct flood coming
through the areas into the Nkisi Stream.
The flood Channel was completed within the record time and was opened
for use on fifteen of this month, while the second and third phases of
the project will include the sand filling of the erosion site and the
dredging of Nkisi Stream.
The residents who spoke to the press were full of praises and
commendations for Governor Obiano for heeding to their plea.
Mrs Charity Chukwuemeka a resident of the area could not hold her joy
as she described the project as unprecedented and said they can sleep
with their two eyes closed.
