Ichie Charles Ikwuka Osakwe was born on November 4, 1928 at Onitsha, Anambra state to late Chief Mark T.N and late Mrs. Grace N. Osakwe of Umuru Village Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The young Charles started his early education at Holy Trinity Primary School, Onitsha. He later proceeded to Christ The King College (CKC), Onitsha where he graduated in 1947. He was appointed a teacher at Prince Memorial Institute in 1948.
Ichie Charles Osakwe was at Prince Memorial from January to April of 1948 and then moved to Christ The King College, his Alma mater, in May 1948 till December 1950. He moved to New Bethel Secondary School, Isulo and later to Our Lady’s High School, then African College, Onitsha between 1950 and 1953.
Ichie Charles Osakwe also tutored at Priscilla Memorial Secondary School, Oguta from January 1954 to September 1956. He was transferred to Metropolitan Secondary School, Onitsha, where he stayed till December 1958.
Chief Osakwe was appointed Principal of Abatete High School, then Notre Damme High School, from January 1959 to September 1963. He was later moved to Modebe Memorial Secondary School, Onitsha from October 1963 to February 1964. It was during this period that he applied and got admission into the University of London Graduate Program where he obtained Bachelor of Science degree, Second Class Upper division, in Mathematics.
Armed with this prestigious and excellent qualification, Ichie Charles Ikwuka Osakwe, popularly called Omenyi, preceded to Government College, Umuahia and later to Aquinas Secondary School, Osu, where he stayed till 1966. He later went to Nsukka High School, Nsukka in 1972 and to College of Immaculate Conception (CIC) Enugu in August 1975.
In 1977, Omenyi moved to Saint Theresa’s College, Nsukka. He had a very brief stay at Nnewi High school, Nnewi between September and November 1978. He joined in establishing the College of Arts and Science, Oko in December 1978 as a pioneer staff.
The school later metamorphosed to College of Arts, Science and Technology, Oko and later to Anambra State Polytechnic and finally to Federal Polytechnic, Oko. Ichie Charles Ikwuka Osakwe was later transferred back to State Education Commission, Awka zone, where he retired in 1984 as a Chief Supervising Principal (special grade).
Ichie Charles Ikwuka Osakwe was married in 1968 to Mrs. Stella Ifeoma Osakwe (Nee Nnoka). The marriage was blessed with five children. They are: Chief Jideofor and Nonye Osakwe, Mr. Tagbo Osakwe, Dr. Belonwu and Chidiogo Osakwe, Mr. Chinua and Ogochukwu Osakwe (children) and numerous grand children.
Chief Osakwe (Omenyi) was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church and was conferred with the title, Ide of the Catholic Church. Omenyi died at the age of 92.
There will be burial mass by 10am tomorrow, Thursday, July 2, 2020 at the Holy Trinity Parish, Ogidi. Other funeral ceremonies will follow thereafter at his family compound, Umuru Ogidi, along Abatete Road. There will be Thanksgiving service On Sunday, July 05, 2020 at the Holy Trinity Parish, Ogidi.
