Transport Companies in Awka and environs were ecstatic with the
announcement by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 that the ban
on Inter – State travel will be lifted from today, July first, 2020.
The ban had been imposed as a strategy to limit human movement in
order to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
Correspondent Valentine Mbadugha, went round Awka capital city and got
the reactions of motorists.
Companies visited Include, Peace Mass Transit Company Ltd, ANIDS Mass
Transit, G.U.O Transport Company, among others.
It was observed that most companies were maintaining their park and
putting other logistics in place to ensure effective service delivery.
Speaking to the ABS, the Supervisor, Peace Mass Transit Company, Awka,
Mr. Valentine Ugwu, recounted their losses, and commended the
Federal government for being considerate.
He assured that the company will operate in line with the guidelines
which according to him is for the interest of everyone.
A driver with ANIDS Mass Transit, Mr. Matthias Ezeh, said that the
company has perfected plans to provide hand washing materials for both
the staff members and customers, as well as hand sanitizers among
other preventive materials.
He expressed optimism that the development will improve economic
activities thereby easing the suffering of the masses.
