Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in
collaboration with ICRISAT, has distributed seed palliative to
ATASP-1, Adani-Omor zone farmers to cushion the affects of COVID-19.


The exercise, which took place at ATASP-1 office in Awka, attracted
Rice and Sorghum farmers from Adani-Omor Staple Crop Processing zone.
Agric correspondent, Ebele Ezeh reports that Anambra state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing
and Export, Mr. Nnamdi Onukwuba, on the occasion, said that the
gesture will boost morale of farmers and restore their confidence in
government and ATASP-1.

Mr. Onukwuba, charged the beneficiaries to make best use of the seed
palliatives for their personal growth and the Anambra State economy.

Also speaking, Sorghum Commodity Specialist and Coordinator of COVID-19 Palliative, Dr Hakeem Ajeigbe noted that the improved Sorghum and Rice seeds will be distributed to three hundred smallholder farmers across nine selected local government areas in Anambra and Enugu States.

Dr Ajeigbe, represented by Dr Folorunso Akinseye, appealed to
extension facilitators in the zone to provide technical guidance to
farmers that will receive the seeds in their communities, for optimal
benefits.

The Zonal Programme Coordinator of ATASP-1, Adani-Omor Staple Crop
Processing Zone, Mr. Romanus Egba, in his speech, applauded the
initiative meant for farmers that cannot afford seeds this period of
COVID-19, pandemic, noting that it will close the critical gap in good
agronomic practices for high yield.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Elder Sunday Ugochukwu and Mrs. Nneoma Ejike appreciated the gesture, promising to use various exposures already garnered to maximize the benefits.
